European Compost Network ECN is a collaboration of partners promoting sustainable practices in composting, anaerobic digestion and other treatment procedures for organic waste across Europe. It serves with his approach on Quality Management in Biological Treatment of Waste first of all for the need of the practical operation and the decision makers.

The objectives of ECN are to promote the adoption of sustainable systems for organic waste management through technological development and improvement of practices. ECN shall pursue these objectives by:

  • The exchange of knowledge and experiences in the practice of collection, treatment, recycling, application and disposal of organic wastes including the management of environmental side effects.
  • Promoting scientific research and development activities and their co-ordination between the European countries.
  • Making available the results of research and development, new analytical and working procedures and especially the related practical aspects.
  • Providing information of all aspects within the field of activity of the Network to decision makers on national and international level, however, these activities do not include the giving of expert opinion.
  • Organising of workshops, seminars etc on an international or regional level and supporting such meetings organised by other associations active in the range of biological waste.
  • Establishing and maintaining relations with other international or national organisations whose activities are related to organic waste management.

ECN shares knowledge and information among members through email, exchange of reports and articles, workshops and a web site which includes web based discussion forums. The ECN initiates and supports new activities, projects and works carried out by individual members or groups of members supporting the objectives of the ECN.
